I am curious about the choice of gendered pronouns in these security briefs. I imagine that when a person makes a report about another person engaging in “suspicious behavior,” they typically will use some gendered pronoun corresponding to how they perceive the observed person’s gender, so to a degree the inclusion of gendered pronouns here contributes to completeness. However, there are plenty of other attributes of reported persons that are unmentioned in these briefs, such as physical characteristics or apparent race or age, and any of the snap judgments of identity that reporters make of people they observe may be erroneous, so I wonder if it may be more appropriate to stick with terms like “students” and “persons” rather than “males/females” and to use they/them/their pronouns.

Note from the editor: These briefs are published exactly as they are sent to The Clerk by campus safety.
