Campus Safety Brief, 2/12/21 – 2/18/21

Friday, February 12th

1:09 p.m.                                Property Damage                              HCA Trail

HCA North Gate arm was discovered damaged. It appeared as though someone had struck the arm with a vehicle. Facilities was advised of the issue.

3:45 p.m.                                Personal Illness                                 38 Hannum Drive

A student was transported from HCA 38 to Bryn Mawr Hospital by ambulance. Health Services reported that a student was having personal health issues causing vomiting and faintness. The student returned to campus at 2200 hrs.  Dean on Call and Health Services notified.

Saturday, February 13th

6:33 a.m.                                Suspicious Activity                           Gummere Hall

Delaware County Dispatcher notified Campus Safety that he received a phone call from a student living in Gummere Hall of possible gunshots fired in the area.  Officers dispatched to location, along with HTPD who was already arriving on location.  The area was thoroughly searched with negative results.  The student, who stated that he was unfamiliar with the actual sound of gunshots, may have heard trash being picked up by local trash company or Housekeeping removing trash from the building.  

Sunday, February 14th

8:16 a.m.                                Safety Hazard                                   46 Hannum Drive

A student called to report that part of the ceiling in her bedroom at HCA 46 had fallen due to a previously reported water leak. Campus Safety responded; no injuries reported. Facilities was notified and responded to assess the damage.  Students in the building were temporarily relocated.

Tuesday, February 16th

10:46 a.m.                              Personal Injury                                 Dining Center

A Dining Center staff member had come in contact with exposed electrical wires in a freezer causing a shock. Campus Safety transported the staff member to Bryn Mawr Hospital for evaluation.

1:02 p.m.                                Suspicious Vehicle                            Featherbed Lane

A student observed a vehicle on the nature trail at Featherbed Lane and Haverford Rd. Officers identified the vehicle as a lost Amazon delivery driver whose vehicle was stuck in the snow.  Officers assisted the driver in exiting campus.

Wednesday, February 17th

1:17 p.m.                                Suspicious Activity                           Chase Hall

A faculty member believed someone had entered his office in Chase Hall. Nothing was missing, but items had been moved. Campus Safety responded, but were unable to determine who had been in the area.

4:05 p.m.                                Suspicious Odor                                GIAC

A staff member reported an odor of gas coming from the GIAC garages. Officer reported the odor of gas may have been coming from the Athletics golf cart in the garage.  The gas cap was off.  Cap replaced and area vented.

4:33 p.m.                               Unauthorized Use                              Hannum Drive

A Campus Safety supervisor reported that someone was illegally dumping trash in the dumpsters near the small parking lot on Hannum Dr.  The person left after being told he was not permitted to do so.  Officer responded, verified that the vehicle was gone and monitored the area.

7:04 p.m.                                Suspicious Odor                                Leeds Hall

Student reported an odor of gas between Leeds Hall and the Infirmary. Campus Safety Facilities staff checked the area; no odor of gas detected. It is unknown as to where the odor originated.

4:33 p.m.                               Personal Illness                                  Dining Center

Campus Safety received a report of a staff member at the Dining Center having a medical issue. Narberth Ambulance notified. The staff member was transported to Bryn Mawr Hospital by ambulance.
