Benston to continue as Provost next year

Updated 5/3 3:18 PM

Interim Provost Kimberly Benston will serve another year as Provost, “after much convincing by both the present and incoming presidents,” wrote Professor of English Maud McInerney in an email to students registered for Benston’s Fall English 225 Shakespeare class.

McInerney said, the course will still be taught in the Fall by Shakespeare scholar Barbara Riebling. His English Junior Seminar next will be taught by Debora Sherman and Stephen Finley.

“I write with great regret to say that because I’ve agreed to stay in the Provost’s office during President-elect Dan Weiss’s transitional first year, I won’t be teaching Junior Seminar next year, Benston wrote in an email to students registered for the class. “I assure you that my disappointment exceeds yours, first, because it is multiplied fifteen times over, and second because, while I’m not savoring with you the rich joys of English literature from Shakespeare to Joyce, you will be doing just that with one or the other of the course’s most outstanding designers and teachers: Debora Sherman and Steve Finley.”
