The northwest entrance to the Whitehead Campus Center is scheduled to be back in service by early November, after being in repairs for over a month.
According to Assistant Director of Facilities Management William V. Anderko Jr., the final repair work on the closed area in the Whitehead Campus Center is “scheduled to commence on Monday, October 28” and expected to finish after approximately five days of good weather.
On September 2, lightning struck the chimney on the northwest end of the Whitehead Campus Center, damaging the structure and leaving the nearby area, including the entrance by the bookstore, temporarily closed from use.
As part of the initial emergency work, workmen used a truck crane to stabilize the chimney and the surrounding roof.
Before the remaining repairs could commence, the appropriate materials had to be ordered and the repair work carefully planned, a process now determined to involve both scaffolding and the truck crane, said Anderko.
The contractor hired by the College is Jamison Masonry Restoration.
