Ellen Schoder ’19 to Serve as Next Editor-in-Chief

The Clerk is pleased to name Ellen Schoder ’19 as its next Editor-in-Chief.

Schoder, a History major, has contributed to the paper since her freshman year, and has previously served as News Editor and Associate Editor.  She has reported on topics such as student government, guest speakers, and student groups on campus.

Schoder is taking over for Maurice Rippel ‘19, an English major and Education minor who was appointed Editor-in-Chief in the spring of 2017.  Claudia Nguyen ‘18, a biology major, will continue to serve as Associate Editor.

“Maurice has done a great job leading the newspaper and making the Clerk a bigger institution on campus,” said Schoder.  “I can’t wait to return to the Clerk this semester as Editor-in-Chief and work with our amazing staff and editorial board.”

Schoder spent the fall semester abroad in Spain, and Rippel will be studying in Barbados this spring.

Rippel commented, “Ellen and I were on the same first-year hall, and I remember her tackling sometimes three separate news pieces at a time.  Folks would joke that she was the news back then.  Since then, I’ve gotten to work with her as my Associate Editor in the Spring ’17 [semester].  Her commitment to The Clerk is impeccable, and there’s nobody, in my mind, more qualified to take charge.”

He added, “While I’ll miss The Clerk dearly, it’s definitely not a final goodbye.  I’m excited to read the articles [from] abroad and see the continued conversations from the fall.”
Applications for the 2018-2019 Editorial Board will open towards the end of the school year.  Please contact Ellen at eschoder@haverford.edu with any questions or concerns.
